Lady Blue Devils cruise to state

November 6, 2018 by Jean Schurman

The Corvallis Blue Devils are headed back to Bozeman for the Class A state tournament after winning the Western A Divisional tournament. They will open the tournament against Glendive, the No. 4 seed from the East. That game will be at 10am on Thursday.

Corvallis earned the trip to Bozeman by defeating Libby in four sets. Corvallis coach Kasey Arceniega said the Libby defense was very aggressive and that made fro some long rallies. “Even after the loss of the third set, we stayed poised and came back. They were a fun team to play.”

She said all of her team were standouts throughout the tournament. Maureen Jessop has always done well on offense but, according to Arceniega, her defense was really good this weekend. Libero Casey Fison’s passing made for some great plays. Charlotte Powell, who plays in the middle, is very dynamic and quick, and has a wicked serve. Kaitlin Irwin is a strong right side hitter and setter Hannah Martin is very quiet but gets the job done. Arceniega said Martin’s second sets are really improving too.
