Election results

November 15, 2011 by Editor

HAMILTON

Three incumbent Hamilton City Councilors, who ran unopposed for another term, were all victorious in the November 8, 2011 municipal elections. Joe Petrusaitis garnered 247 votes to keep his seat in Ward 1. Al Mitchell kept his Ward 2 seat with a vote of 131. Jenny West stays on in Ward 3 with a vote of 209.

Michael Reardon retained his seat as Municipal Court Judge with a vote of 611. He also ran unopposed.

The selection of a City Treasurer is yet to be determined, according to County Clerk and Recorder Regina Plettenberg. With no candidate on the ballot, 118 write-in votes were received. Among those, no single write-in received more than a few votes. Plettenberg said she is unsure how to deal with the numbers since the law requires that a write-in receive at least 5 percent of the voters in the previous election. In this case, since the position was recently created, there is no previous election. Not only that, but the write-in must be qualified. Plettenberg noted at least one write-in that she knew lived in the county and was not a resident of the city, disqualifying her.
Due to all the questions, Plettenberg decided to finish canvassing the vote and pass those results to the Hamilton City Attorney for review and some recommendation on how to proceed.
DARBY

Mayor Rick Scheele, running unopposed, was re-elected by a vote of 127.

Matt Anderson beat out James Corbett for his seat on the Council in Ward 1, 50 to 31.

Running unopposed, Bret Rider won the Ward 2 seat with 54 votes.

Evelyn Savochka handily beat her competition, David Huguenin, 92 to 47 for the council at large position.

STEVENSVILLE

The election for Ward 1 Councilperson in Stevensville was a blowout by Ron Klaphake over incumbent Pat Groninger. Klaphake soundly defeated Groninger, 210 to 20, taking 91 percent of the vote.

Running unopposed for the Ward 2 seat, Bill Perrin got 201 votes.

PINESDALE

In Pinesdale, Stacy Jessop was elected Selectman over Hyrum Jessop by a two to one margin in a 66 to 33 vote.

FLORENCE RURAL FIRE DISTRICT LEVY

The Fire District levy in Florence was defeated, 450 to 359.
