Falcons stop Copperheads

Usually, Homecoming week can be a bit distracting with all the activities going on. But Friday night when the Florence Falcons came onto Whalen Field in Florence, they were focused and ready to play Anaconda. On their second series of the first quarter, Florence’s Colby Kohlman broke loose from the Copperheads and raced 45 yards for the touchdown. Gavin Zaluski kicked the PAT and the Falcons were off and flying.

Anaconda was threatening on the next series when Trevyn Wood picked off Dylan Smith’s pass at the Florence five-yard line to stop the Copperheads. The Falcons marched down the field and Kohlman broke through from 17 yards out for another six points and the PAT was good.

In the second quarter, the Falcons really went to town. Brenden Bailey caught a 20-yard pass from Kohlman for the score. Then Zach Cather was Kohlman’s receiver on a 16-yard scoring pass. Eli Christiansen went to work and had scoring runs of 14 yards, 50 yards, and 47 yards. The final Falcon score was a 47 yard run by sophomore Jonny Chamberlin.

Hamilton defeated Stevensville, 48-14, in the first conference game of the season. The Broncs put 21 points on the board before Stevensville scored. Hamilton’s Carson Rostad passed for three touchdowns. He completed 10 of 14 passes for 140 yards and had one interception. Tyler Barnes was the first recipient of a Rostad scoring pass. He caught one from nine yards out. Rostad then passed to Caden Brown for one yard and the six points. Rostad’s final touchdown pass was to Cam Rothie for an eight-yard score. Rothie also had an 83-yard kickoff return for a TD. Michal Golden had two rushing touchdowns for the Broncs, one from two yards out and the other was a 31-yard scoring run. Tyler Barnes kicked all the PATs for the Broncs and they were good.

Stevensville’s Kyler Pancake had a two-yard touchdown run. Mirko Ferrette kicked the PAT. The Yellowjackets’ second score was a Garrison Bradt pass to Ethan Shobe from four yards out. Ferrette kicked the PAT again and it was good.

Victor lost to Charlo, 44-12. The Pirates could not stop Charlo’s Landers Smith who threw or rushed for six touchdowns before Victor was able to score in the third quarter. Victor’s Skyler Weberson caught a 65-yard pass from JD Kay for their first touchdown of the game. Their second was a 30-yard run by Kay for the score.

Corvallis lost to Frenchtown, 31-8. Darby lost to Arlee.

Thank you JEAN SCHURMAN for covering the small schools that the Missoulian and Ravalli Republic seldom do. You do a wonderful job on getting many of the activities covered. So appreciated!
