I find the oxymoron of liberals extremely funny. I attended a lecture on free speech. This lecture was protested by liberals who, while exercising free speech, protested free speech. They don’t seem to understand the Constitutional 1st Amendment that free speech is free speech. It doesn’t matter what someone says, even if you don’t like it, they still have a right to speak it.
Sadly, it seems our colleges aren’t teaching free speech, nor does it seem professors understand it. I talked to a young man in the Journalism School at the U of M who attended the lecture as well. I asked him why his Dean didn’t want this speaker on free speech to talk. He answered the Dean didn’t think free speech had anything to do with journalism. I say this Dean needs to learn the Constitution.
I also understand the Motto of the U of M is “Light and Truth” and yet they didn’t want a speaker to come because they didn’t like his politics and religion. I think they need to get rid of their motto now that they don’t want speakers who come to bring light and truth about free speech.
Many of our colleges are trying to shut down free speech by introducing what is called cultural speech codes and micro-aggression. This is a roundabout way to say speech must be comfortable for everyone, which is another way to shut down opposing views. These colleges seem to forget their purpose was to exchange ideas in order to promote thinking on the students’ part.
I also hear the words “hate speech” and somehow people think it’s law. If one is spewing hate, while it’s not nice, it’s still free speech.
These colleges and liberals are trying to erode our Constitution with lies. Once free speech is gone you have communism. I prefer a free society and free speech.

Actually, communism is an economic system, and has nothing to do with free speech. When free speech is gone you may have totalitarianism, or fascism, but communism is an entirely separate issue.
I’m with you on preferring a free society and free speech, within the constraints of law (e.g. no incitement, libel, etc.), though.

This is typical, an opinion based on second hand information, and the, ‘I heard someone say’. Wow, you “talked to a young man in the Journalism School at the U of M who attended the lecture as well. I asked him why his Dean didn’t want this speaker on free speech to talk. He answered the Dean didn’t think free speech had anything to do with journalism. I say this Dean needs to learn the Constitution”. and you base your discussion of Free Speech on this? So this is Conservatism?
Dee, I have read the hatred you and your husband have spewed toward others, Those with different beliefs, different color or other religion, different political beliefs. I guess this is Conservatism, I guess this is your Free Speech.
“Immigration by the administration is wrong,” said John Gibney of Hamilton, who sat with wife, Dee, on the side of the street with cardboard signs.
Dee Gibney said, “They hate Christians, Jews, women, gays.” Even carried a sign. Who are THEY. Do you know any of these people? People in your political party hate gays.
John Gibney said, “They rape, kill, destroy.” and a nice sign.
“There is a legal way of doing things, an orderly way of doing things,” John Gibney said. “There has been since this country was founded. There’s a right way and they’re doing it the wrong way, and our black Muslim president is trying to bring this country down. And he’s doing a very good job with all of his lapdogs.” The Gazette Feb 2, 2016 I also like how John referring to Mr Obama as “the Black Muslim President” Really classy and just shows total ignorance, Very Conservative of you.
So you speak of hatred, with second hand information, with total ignorance, You blame and judge people you do not even know or have an grasp of their life situation, I guess to you and your husband they are just “THEM’ Very Christian of you. That is very Conservative of you.

Would you welcome an anti-theist speaker to the Bitteroot? Someone who is not just an atheist, but who is vocally opposed to organized religion because of all the harm irrational beliefs cause?
