The Lady Tigers of Darby are on a roll this volleyball season with a new coach, new attitude and new plays. The result is a winning record and a force to be reckoned with in the Western C division. First year coach Shawna van Beek is pleased with how her team is gelling and at their competitiveness. With a record of five wins and three losses at the mid-point of the season, the team has had a chance to see what they are up against in the Western C Division.
“They are super dedicated,” said van Beek of the Lady Tigers. “And they are just totally dedicated. I’m tough on them and really strict with them but they have stepped up and taken the challenge.”
Darby defeated Victor in three games on Thursday. But coach Elaine Lewis isn’t discouraged. She said her team has a new attitude this year and are working hard. Although a little on the short side, Lewis said her team is very scrappy and plays defense very well.
“They didn’t quit tonight,” said Lewis of the game against Darby. “Although normally our strong point, our serves were our weakness tonight.”
