Dale Gregory Walker, 71, of Floweree, MT, passed away on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at Missouri River Medical Center in Fort Benton. Cremation has taken place under the care of Croxford Funeral Home. A celebration of his life will take place at a later date.
Born in Great Falls, MT on November 20, 1945 to Morris and Clara Whitehorn Walker, Dale grew up working on the family farm. He graduated from Ft. Benton High School and attended the University of Great Falls. He was married in 1971 to Marcy Mabott, and although they divorced in 1983, they remained friends through the years.
Dale worked at the Anaconda Smelter, worked for Weisman’s, but most important were the years he lived in Stevensville, MT and was a partner in the business 1888 Metal Arts for several years. He was a fantastic artist and lots of people wear his designs (jewelry, belt buckles, bolo ties). In his metal art he used the “lost wax” technique. He also worked with antlers, etching designs into them. He lived in Stevensville until 2014, when health issues forced him to move back to Floweree. He lived with his sister Vicki and family (“the tribe,” as he called them) until his passing.
He loved to listen to NPR (National Public Radio), loved music, mostly blues, dancing, and reading. He loved to talk and had lots of friends.
Dale is survived by his sisters, Vicki (Alvin) Deck of Floweree, Terri (Jack) Anderson of Vancouver, WA; two nieces, two nephews, and several great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
