The Bitterroot Red Sox and the Glacier Twins met Saturday and Sunday for a nine-inning on both days. This clash between a couple of the top teams in the American Legion western conference was everything it hyped up to be.
Jonathan Ringer started out pitching for the Red Sox in their game Saturday night under the lights. He struck out five batters before he was relieved by Hunter Omlid in the fifth inning. Omlid went on to finish the game and take the 8-3 win.
The Red Sox took the lead in the first inning when Joe Johnson hit a double and scored two runners. The Twins came back in the second inning when Derrek Kastella hit a double. Max Smyley, AJ Wetch and Colton Parker brought the runners in to tie the game at 3-all. That would be the only runs for the Twins.
Tylor Nixon scored in the bottom of the fifth on a passed ball and then came back to hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth. He finished with three RBIs. Nixon also had a part in two double plays to stymie any comebacks by Glacier. The Red Sox went on to win, 8-3. Each team had 10 hits and the Red Sox committed three errors.
The Red Sox used three pitchers to take a 3-1 win over the Twins. Kyle Norman began the game and had five strikeouts before Ladd Grenfell relived him in the seventh inning. Grenfell took the win but Nixon relieved him in the eighth inning. Nixon had two Ks. This was a defensive struggle with the Red Sox hitting only six singles. Nixon and Chase Conner each had an RBI and Nixon scored on a passed ball.
The Bitterroot Bucs were in Helena for a double header against the Reps. The Bucs won the first game 7-1. They lost to Helena, 13-4 in the nightcap.
The Red Sox will play the Bitterroot Bucs at Florence on May 15th at 2pm.
