DJ Pekoc has done what few other high school athletes have done, been on the podium at every state championship of his high school career. His freshman and sophomore years, he paired up with Bridger Walczynski and the duo won the championship those two year. Last year, he was set to win his first singles championship but had to withdraw due to an injury and placed second.
That was not the case this year. He methodically worked his way through the bracket and claimed the championship. Pekoc defeated Havre’s Jeff Miller, 6-2, 6-3, for the championship. In the semi finals, he defeated Libby’s Walter Briones, 6-3, 6-4. Pekoc opened against Eric Holdhusen of Whitefish and soundly defeated him, 6-0, 6-0. In the quarterfinals, Joey Nichols of Billings Central lost to Pekoc, 6-1, 6-0.In the boys’ doubles, Riley Jessop and Caleb Powell finished fifth. Corvallis finished second behind Billings Central in the team scoring.
Alex Raymond of Hamilton finished fourth in the singles.
Corvallis’ Laramie McHugh ran up against Barclay Fagg of Billings Central in the finals and came out on the short end, 2-6, 6-3, 7-5. Amber Wissenbach finished fifth. The Corvallis girls finished third behind Livingston and Billings Central.
