The Florence softball team looked tough on Thursday against Loyola. The Lady Falcons have had their struggles this season, and as three time defending state champions, they do have a target on their backs. However they seem to be coming together at the right time of the season. The Lady Falcons took a pair of wins from the Breakers; topping the Missoula team 12-2 in five innings in the first game and then completing the sweep with an 11-4 win.
Veteran pitcher Megan Byrne took the win in the first game and pitched two innings in the second before Sarah Schurg came in to relieve her and get the win. In the first game, Byrne went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Holly Hale hit 2-for-3 with an RBI. Kristyne Drozdz was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Catcher Chloe Arthur also had two RBIs. Josie McCann went 2-for-3, and Kayla Cole was 1-for-3.
In the second game, Florence had a two-run lead going into the bottom of the seventh and then hit five runs in to secure the 11-4 victory. Schurg hit two home runs and had four RBIs. She was 2-for-3 at bat. Arthur went 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI. McCann had two RBIs and was 1-for-3. Natalie Drozdz was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Kali Leibenguth also had an RBI.
On Saturday, the Lady Falcons split a doubleheader with Plains/Hot Springs. Florence knocked out an 18-4 five inning win in the first game but then lost the second game, 18-16. They committed six errors in the second game.
Byrne had the win in the first game. She had a double and three BRIs. Catcher Chloe Arthur batted 1-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs. McCann went 2-for-5 with four RBIs and a double. Natalie Drozdz had two doubles and an RBI and was 2-for-5 at bat.
In the second game, Schurg took the loss for Florence. Byrne and Leibenguth had doubles and each also had two RBIs. Hale and Natalie Drozdz also had RBIs.
