Timothy Patrick Dowling

September 16, 2026 by Editor Leave a Comment

Timothy Patrick Dowling, born December 22, 1953 passed away peacefully on August 20, 2026 surrounded by his family after an extended illness.  He is survived by his loving wife, Janet, of 44 years; son Michael Patrick Dowling; daughter Meghan Reha Caraballo and son-in-law, Nicholas Caraballo; brother John W. Dowling IV (Theresa); sister Kathleen Dowling Stout; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Tim was born to Helen “Peggy” Margaret Carrigan Dowling and John “Jack” W. Dowling III, in Hamilton, Montana, where his family lived for three generations while serving the Bitterroot Valley as owners of the Dowling Funeral Home. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Michael Dowling; and brother-in-law Gary Stout.

Tim embraced growing up in Montana, often spending time at the family cabin in Dowling Gulch on the East Fork of the Bitterroot River.  Tim and his family enjoyed playing cards, snowmobiling, fishing and exploring the outdoors.

A dedicated family man, “Big Daddy” adored his family, embraced his Irish culture and cherished his beloved Montana.  A graduate of Gonzaga University, Tim had a successful banking career in Albuquerque, NM; Raton, NM; Newport, OR; Olympia, WA; and Bismarck, ND—forging lifelong relationships and serving as a community leader in each city where he and Janet lived with their children.

Sports were a big part of Tim’s life.  His lifetime love of the Green Bay Packers, Gonzaga basketball and, later, the Seattle Mariners, provided great family memories, highlighted by watching the “Pack” play at Lambeau Field.  A competitive golfer, Tim enjoyed the new group of friends that he and Janet made in Arizona.  He recorded four holes-in-one at Corte Bella Golf Club, his home course.

Tim’s ever-present sense of humor and twinkling Irish eyes brought countless laughs to everyone he knew, often sharing jokes about himself.  His light and his laughter will be dearly missed by many.

Tim will rest in peace at his birthplace in Hamilton, Montana, overlooking the Bitterroot River, a place he revered.  The graveside service will be held Friday, September 18th, at 1 PM at the Riverview Cemetery in Hamilton.

Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.brothersmortuary.com.
