The Bitterroot Valley cross country teams from Darby, Corvallis, Florence, Hamilton, Stevensville, and Victor were in Missoula on Saturday, Sept. 19, for the annual Mountain West Classic at the UM Golf Course.
The Mountain West Classic is this massive tournament with nearly 100 high schools competing from four states. There were 461 varsity boys runners and 421 varsity girls runners, so this is some of the best competition Bitterroot runners will face all year. Needless to say, a top finish in this event is an impressive accomplishment.
In the team standings, the Hamilton girls took 13th place, the Corvallis boys took 16th place, and the Corvallis girls took 20th place.
Individual results
Darby’s Ben Martin was the Bitterroot’s highest boys finisher in 11th place with a time of 16:26.8. The other Bitterroot boys in the top 100 were Jeremy Davidson of Corvallis in 31st (16:42.0), Corvallis’s Braden Anderson in 64th (17:17.6), and Hamilton’s Benjamin Beare in 95th (17:43.3). Bozeman’s Taylor Neil won the boys race with a time of 15:14.4.
Hamilton’s Aleigha Child was the Bitterroot’s highest girls finisher in 14th place with a time of 18:55.2. The other Bitterroot girls in the top 100 were Hamilton’s Reecelyn Walthall in 21st (19:21.4), Hamilton’s Maevie Child in 44th (20:10.4), and Corvallis’s Ellie Berger in 65th (20:34.7). Polson’s Morgan Delaney won the girls race with a time of 17:50.3.
