#9 Darby manhandles Mission

The Darby Tiger football team (ranked #9 in the Sept. 15, 406 MT Sports poll) traveled to St. Ignatius on Friday, Sept. 18, and defeated the Mission Bulldogs 50-26.

Darby’s Reagan Christopherson had a huge game; the sophomore running back had 31 carries for 221 yards and scored six rushing touchdowns. Also for Darby, quarterback Abe Atkins completed 9 of 12 passes for 125 yards, including a touchdown pass to Gavin Anderson.

On defense for Darby, Christopherson led the way with eight total tackles. Maco Biesiot had 1.5 sacks, and Jordan Browning and Gavin Anderson each had an interception.

Darby is now 3-0 and has outscored opponents 178-38 on the season. Darby faces a tough challenge this week as they play at #5 St. Regis (3-0) in a top ten battle of the Tigers on Friday, Sept. 25, at 7 p.m.

#1 Mother nature defeats #2 Florence and #2 Frenchtown

Florence, the #2 ranked Class B football team (MT Montana Sports), hosted Frenchtown, the #2 ranked Class A team, on Friday, Sept. 18, in a rare matchup between top Class B and Class A teams.

After a quarter of play, the score was tied 0-0, then lightning in the area forced the game to be cancelled.

The game didn’t have conference implications, but it’s unfortunate Montana high school football fans didn’t get to see how a top Class B team fared against a top Class A team. Based on the first quarter it would have been an even matchup.

Florence begins their conference schedule this week as they host a solid undefeated Thompson Falls team on Friday, Sept. 25, at 7 p.m.
