Trump doesn’t care about you, your kids, your job, or your financial security. And when you look at the GOP, too many Republican sycophants have made it clear that they don’t care either. Their priorities seem to be power, wealth, and corruption—not the well-being of ordinary Americans.
Over the past few weeks, we’ve seen signs that some in the MAGA movement are beginning to lose faith in these elites and in Trump. His decisions are becoming increasingly unpopular, and people are starting to recognize him for what he is: a coward who seems far more concerned with enriching himself, avoiding accountability, and protecting his own interests than with protecting our democracy.
Who does Trump listen to? The fossil-fuel industry, health-insurance companies, weapons manufacturers, and Putin—not to families worried about cancer treatments, safe food for their children, keeping good jobs, or the well-being of our military service members. He exploits and manipulates white supremacists and evangelical Christians to advance his agenda of division. He repeatedly attacks those he portrays as “others”—people of different religions, skin colors, genders, and backgrounds.
Trump’s actions speak for themselves. Look at what he has become notorious for: using taxpayer money to support lavish projects such as a ballroom; covering everything in gold; benefiting from tax loopholes and tax cuts that could add trillions to the national debt our children will ultimately inherit; offshoring American jobs; engaging in alleged insider trading; packing the federal courts with far-right judges; and weakening or dismantling agencies created to protect Americans—including the Labor Department, Education Department, civil-rights protections, voting-rights protections, the EPA, IRS, USPS, FCC, and others.
So what can you do about it?
Speak up. You cannot speak up enough about corruption and the threats to our democracy. Use the 5 Calls app to contact your senators and representatives. Their offices keep track of constituent calls, and public opinion matters.
Register to vote. Check your voter registration. And then vote.
Support the Montana Plan, which is receiving national attention. I-194 would help eliminate anonymous money in our elections. We should not allow political parties and giant corporations to use unlimited financial influence to undermine our democracy.
And finally, educate yourself. Use and support independent news sources, not corporate owned media. Read Heather Cox Richardson and listen to Thom Hartmann on Free Speech TV or SiriusXM. They provide history, research, and context that can help you understand what is happening and why it matters.
We cannot afford to stay silent. Democracy depends on people paying attention, speaking up, and voting. Use your voice and encourage others to do the same.
