No, it’s not. It may have been in 1992 when James Carville first used that expression, but today, in 2024, it’s not really about the economy, but about freedoms and about freedom itself.
To most people “the economy” means prices at the gas pump and the grocery store, which seem high to me, too. Apparently there are ways to fix that. but they tend to raise unemployment so extremely that you may end up without a job to enable you to purchase the cheaper gas and groceries. You want that?
No, today it’s about freedom, the rule of law, and the role of government in your life and mine.
Have you started reading Project 2025 (https://www.project2025.org/) or looking into Agenda 47 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agenda_47)? It’s high time. November 5th is coming fast, and if you “just always vote Republican” like a lot of people out here – well, you might want to know where that might get you and us.
Ironically, it’s Big Government. It may be traditional for Republicans to favor “small government” and fewer rules, regulations, and general oversight in our lives, but what the Trump/Vance team wants to do is scrap most of the the existing governmental structure and civil service and replace it according to straight, white, “Christian,”* male values and absolute, blind loyalty to Trump, who is now the oldest person ever to run for President and clearly not altogether lucid, and presumably to Vance, who can’t wait to step into Trump’s shoes.
Dictators tell you what to do and punish you if you don’t follow through.
On the other hand, are you familiar with Keb’ Mo’s song “Put a Woman in Charge”? Check out those lyrics.
* I use quotation marks here because many people who proudly use the designation these days appear to be completely unfamiliar with the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth as recorded in the Bible. But then, he wasn’t a Christian, was he?

Mary, did Trump get shot?
Howard S. says
Project 2025 is the brainchild of people from the former Trump administration that will be major players in the next Trump administration, if there is one. Its purpose is to have an agenda of policies to enact in the event of a Trump win. Trump himself has no concrete plans for policies he’d like to see put in place. He doesn’t know enough about how government works (or care enough to learn) to come up with actual policies. This creates a vacuum that the worst elements of the GOP are more than happy to exploit. Project 2025 aims to fill that vacuum with an actual plan of ridiculously unpopular ideas that I’m sure they will have no problem selling Trump on.
PFranklin says
Well, you look silly since you obviously haven’t bothered to go to Trumps website to read his policy statement. It’s not complicated, donaldjtrump.com – I thought you just said he had he “has no concrete plan for policies he’d like to see put in place.” But, lo and behold, right on the front page, a very precise, well thought out, comprehensive, common sense plan. Well, look at that! Makes you look kinda, well, I already said silly. I know, I know, the internet can be hard sometimes.
Where is Kamala’s plan? Oh, never mind, I forgot that the only plan she could possibly have it to do everything the puppet masters tell her to do. Trump’s plan is brilliant and by far more than we can expect from that stupid cackling woman you all are pretending is the best thing that ever happened to your party. She and you both are embarrassing yourselves.
Gomez says
His policy page says what he wants to do. It doesn’t say how he’s going to do it. Included in the 20 most important things on his agenda is “Keeping men out of women’s sports”. What? This is one of the most important things that we need to tackle? Most of the items on his agenda are just personal grievance, and red meat to his base.
Helen Sabin says
YES GOMEZ it is important. That is why title 9 was first set up – Women need to compete with women – not tranny men. Wake up G…..
WMA says
PFranklin,
I took your advice and went to the website.
Simple question: if these agenda items are so important, why didn’t Trump accomplish them in his first term?

MARY – stop with the propaganda! ENOUGH! Start reading and stop being gaslighted by the DEMOCRATS and the far right extreme Republicans:
Former President Donald Trump has never publicly endorsed Project 2025. The former president and his campaign have recently distanced themselves from the initiative on multiple occasions.
Project 2025 itself has denied any affiliation with Trump. But the initiative describes its policy proposals in more general terms as being a “playbook” for the “next conservative administration.” anything extreme – no matter which political party does it is bad for America. Now don’t you look silly? Use that brilliant mind of yours to get to the truth. The real truth – not the media lies that you have read.
Gomez says
“Former President Donald Trump has never publicly endorsed Project 2025.”
You are correct. They have not publicly endorsed it. Then again, he never publicly endorsed Roe v Wade being overturned either, insisting that we need not worry because it was “settled law.” Fool me once, shame on you, fooled me twice, shame on me.
He is a liar, a con man, a snake, someone who can not be trusted. Even if he walked up to the mic and said that he completely disavowed Project 2025 I would not trust him.
A snake.
Mary Fahnestock-Thomas says
Oh, Helen, it’s not about brains; it’s about open eyes and heart. Nothing Trump says is reliable because he cares only about himself and speaks accordingly. Some of the extremists using him are scarier, like Steve Miller and Steve Bannon, not to mention the single-mindedly white, male, cis, “Christian,” retrograde Heritage Foundation. In that world it’s all about money and power, and your blindness to everything but a possible Convention of States plays into that, if anything. How does a CoS differ from the Articles of Confederation, which clearly did not work?
Helen Sabin says
IF he cared only about himself, he wouldn’t have done the many projects he did in NY at his cost. He wouldn’t have given cars and paid mortgages for people he didn’t even know. He wouldn’t have run for the presidency…Why the hell should he have Mary – look at the grief he has suffered due to doing so.
Mary open YOUR eyes and compare him to the Democrats you love……he is far above them. Even YOU can see that if you open eyes and turn on your brain!
