We, all of us I am sure, want to have the highest opinion of those who serve in our military branches. Too, I think it human nature that we elevate those in Special Forces to an even higher level. An exemplar would be Admiral William McRaven, retired ninth commander of the United States Special Operations. If you are not familiar with him, find his commencement address to the class of 2014, University of Texas.
It is difficult to square the unwavering character of Admiral McRaven with that of two former Navy Seals running for national offices in Montana. Both have demonstrated, repeatedly, a casual relationship with the truth. Montana’s political history is rich with “Admiral McRavens” and thankfully, few Zinkes and Sheehys. Don’t let them sully that record with their “embellishments” of their status as “Seals.” Ask Bill McRaven if he would endorse either.
