In the 1990s my piano professor husband had a student who one day commented,”I’m so glad I’m a Christian – you don’t have to think!”
I can understand that. Thinking can be difficult and carries responsibility, so laying it on someone else can be a considerable relief.
On the other hand, why were we given brains and a moral sense, and what is it that makes us different from other animals?
I’m asking because on-going developments in Congress and the Republican National Committee suggest that our traditionally respectable conservative Republican Party has adopted that long-ago student’s attitude: It’s great to have Donald Trump and be MAGA – we don’t have to think!
You can choose that. Dictators don’t want or need thinking people, just servants, including con- and hit-men.
Please remember that if you choose to live under a dictator, you are choosing that for your children and grandchildren as well.
Viktor Orbán and Vladimir Putin seem to be big with the MAGA crowd. It would be interesting to know how the citizens of Hungary and Russia feel about that, but they are not allowed to say.
