The nasty word coming to haunt

February 6, 2024 by Guest Post

by Peter Lethenstrom, Stevensville

The door opens and a dictionary appears opened to word “planning.” The concept has been introduced many times over my 50 years of living in the same homestead, as a transplant to the Bitterroot Valley, but never adopted. Why… inbreeding has denied the concept!  and now we are presented with reality of too much poop and don’t know what to do, but “planning” is now on the front burner. The small valley can only accommodate a limited number of “wanna-be bitterrooters” and as dynamics have changed, not at elected positions, although there were short periods of critical thinking officials, inbreeding brings us current state of affairs … elected officials NOT willing to say YES to planning and to safeguard the environment of the “Root” and deny subdivisions for fear of not being able to rule the roost… Power and control are interesting human dynamics… and, personally, would not want to be a partner in a one-on-one relationship with those who quest power and control!  Correct me if wrong, but believe we are the only county in the state with no planning?

Planning? As far as subdivisions it is Non existent as far as I can see. Think WATER, Law Enforcement, Teachers, Traffic – Road conditions, and air pollution and Medical personnel, and area to grow food crops and on and on. We don’t have enough of these elements now and if you add more people to the mix demanding them, from where do these things come? POOP is a HUGE stinky problem now. Missoula will not allow us to dump our poop on them so…? City leaders and commissioners might think about those elements before approving any more building? Wouldn’t that be great?
