For the record

February 20, 2024 by Guest Post

by Mary Fahnestock-Thomas, Hamilton

I was … surprised … when, at the New Hampshire Republican Presidential Primary on January 23rd, Tim Scott from South Carolina, who had dropped out of the race, supported Mr. Trump with a loud call for Rule of Law.

According to the US Courts website, Rule of Law is a principle under which all persons, institutions, and entities are accountable to laws that are publicly known and agreed upon; that are enforced equally and independently (without partisan bias); and that are consistent with international human rights principles.

Aside from the suit for sexual assault/rape for which he has been ordered to pay almost $90 million, Mr. Trump faces criminal charges in 4 cases: 2 at the federal level, for trying to overturn the 2020 presidential election and for keeping official documents after leaving office, and 2 at the state level, in Georgia for trying to overturn the 2020 election and in New York for paying hush-money to a porn film star. It all comes to 91 charges of felony.

You can look these things up anywhere – except maybe Fox News, which may not cover this story..

This simply doesn’t sound to me like a person to be relied on to support the rule of law unless he makes up the laws himself. That’s what dictators, autocrats, and fascists do as you can see every day in Russia, China, and Hungary, not to mention several Central and South American countries. (Which at least partly explains why people in those countries want to come here.)

Since we live in a democracy, we get to vote freely for who and what we believe in. Just sayin’.

In this country it is still innocent until PROVEN guilty. A Civil case is not one of innocents or guilt it is about damages only. So far he is guilty of nothing except paying off his debt to a bank with interest.

      Tracy,
Civil trials are about determining who committed or did not commit an act or acts at the center of the trial. The court determined and the judge emphasized that Donald Trump RAPED the defendant and if you still support Trump, you are supporting a RAPIST.
