Kathy, you and readers of the Bitterroot Star must watch the YouTube video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VVbNCLmAqlI
hosted by Kenn Quinn-All things article V – as he has the actual voice of Robert Welch, founder of the Birch Society, reading from his JBS Blue Book. Welch explains how to manage, control, and train members to behave and think JBS style so they follow the orders and the thinking they have been taught. Once taught, they hardly stray. Yep, that describes Kathy, State Senator Theresa Manzella and Alan and Terri Lackey.
Critical thinkers, however, don’t need training. They think for themselves. They can view the simulated 2016, 2017, 2023 simulations of an article V COS on YouTube and make up their own minds if the delegates attending them are serious or not. And remember, anything done at a state initiated Article V COS, MUST be ratified by 38 states.
Further, why not try it? As SCOTUS Judge Scalia stated at an AEI discussion, “it’s worth the risk.”
Kathy, your words that you think are fearful, show that you do not know of what you speak. Let’s look at just your first ridiculous point which makes the rest of your reply not worth reading: “Newsome of CA. wants to propose a Convention of States (COS) to add a 28th amendment to the Constitution for an assault weapons ban.”
Okay, that’s fine, he can try to do so… but there are four simple words and one capital V, that deliver a knockout blow to this idea:
Blow # 1: District of Columbia V. Heller https://www.britannica.com/event/District-of-Columbia-v-Heller
Blow # 2: … Since NO COURT in the land has been able to define “assault weapons,” an amendment can’t be proposed without a definition. But let’s help Newsome out, okay?
a. First, 2020 FBI data, states that more people died from injuries sustained from other peoples’ hands and feet, than from rifles. Newsom can just state that hands and feet are “assault weapons.”
b. Then how about swords! Swords are THE “assault weapon” that has the most kills associated with them. Could this be part of Newsom’s definition of an “assault weapon?” If not, then consider that ballpoint pens, cars, pickle jars, stiletto heels and other “exotic” items have been used to assault and kill others.
Blow # 3: According to various sites online, 36 states have gun ownership rates per capita of 38% or higher. Montana is # 1 with a high of 65.9%!
GO MONTANA! But doing basic math, 50 states – 36 states=14 states. Oops. Gavin needs 20 more states to gain the 34 states necessary just to get an amendment PROPOSED. Then he needs 38 states to RATIFY that amendment. Sorry Kathy! Your entire reply falls apart at the first faulty point.
But rejoice! If Bitterroot Star readers want the “real truth” and to learn about the Constitution and Article V, please go to the Independence Institute and their http://articleVinfocenter.com/ and https://i2i.org/constitution/. Or read, The Law of Article V by Natelson, Constitutional Literacy by Farris, and The Original Intent by Barton. Or go online to History.com that has articles and education available for free.
BTW – Kathy, did you know that States have been getting together since the 1700’s to settle all kinds of problems. The JBS doesn’t teach that – It’s not scary enough:

Kathy, dump the Birchers and join the COS to make Montana # 20 to fight Washington. Help us put term limits on Congress, reduce the power of the federal government and balance the budget.
Sadly, however, Kathy will never wise up, drop the Birchers, and stop repeating myths, lies, and scary legends from them. Why NOT? Because according to Welch, “once we got them, we got them!”
