Sure enough, Col. Sperry fell for it. Lest others, too, have read what they wanted and not what I wrote, my letter on socialism was not in any way extolling it, but pointing out that since before the Civil War, wealthy Americans have used the word as a trigger to try to avoid sharing their wealth with less fortunate Americans. Notice how the present Republican Party embraces that trigger. Do you fall for it too?
Also, please notice that President Biden’s budget proposes to raise income taxes ON PEOPLE MAKING MORE THAN $400,000 ANNUALLY and not to raise them even 1¢ for people making under that. Doesn’t that mean we ordinary folks are safe? And grateful that the Republicans in Congress, who can’t seem to agree on a cogent budget proposal of their own, have at least had to take Medicare and Social Security off the chopping block?
Terry Lackey, as a dedicated conservative, is appalled by what is going on in Helena, which I find comforting, because as a more liberal-minded person I am appalled as well, just by other things. Perhaps that means our legislators are doing their job, working to represent all of us instead of just some.
I think the Lackeys and my husband and I were all at the public square dance supporting the Western Montana Agricultural Research Center at Hamilton’s Grange some weeks ago. Wish we could talk together and care together as well as dance together. If we don’t insist on claiming labels, I suspect we have a lot in common.
