My first encounter with John Birch Society was billboards along the highway that read “Get US Out Of The League Of Nations.” My father cheered the message, yet condemned the JBS. I figured Dad didn’t know something. My first introduction to hypocrisy. I have encountered many since. The LTE entitled “Manzella and JBS” is rife with examples. (My Dad’s ignorance WAS cured.)
Claiming there is “no valid reason for a freedom lover to oppose COS” is the first. Here is one valid reason, and it’s enough, we are NOT DECEIVED. I must conclude from the many claims in the aforementioned letter, the author does not know he is. That’s the thing about deception, one becomes so convinced a lie is the truth, that one is willing to go to great lengths to convince others it’s true. That’s easier for human nature than admitting one’s deceived.
The most obvious example found in this letter is the issue of the 10th amendment. Nullification.
The 28 words found there (supported by the 9th) are easily understood by any properly educated middle school student. Yet, I listened to an attorney, hosted by COS advocates, go on and on for almost 30 minutes explaining that it didn’t mean what it says. He based his opinion on “case law.” This is interesting, if case law overruled the Constitution, slavery would still be the law-of-the-land. That’s how the SCOTUS ruled in the 1800’s, prompting the 13th amendment. In fact, we are living under many states employing the right of nullification: marijuana.
Speaking of “properly educated,” I may have high expectations, yet, I expect free, critical thinking members of society to recognize ignorance when they see it. But, it is most difficult to recognize in oneself. This level of recognition (or lack of) is evidenced in the referenced letter. It is obvious this individual has never honestly investigated JBS. They simply have adopted what they were told by the COS proponents about JBS. Information designed to disparage this organization simply because they are effective. Effective, because they stand firmly on the truth and the U.S. Constitution as originally written. The likelihood of twisting the true meaning of the Constitution prompted Webster to write his 1828 dictionary. Human nature, ya know.
I lament the fact that the early warnings of JBS were not heeded. Had they been, we may not have intrusive organizations like the UN, WHO, WEF, and so many others. My research shows the national-level smear campaign against the JBS began close to the CIA’s coining of the term “conspiracy theorist.” Hmmm…
Regarding Senator Manzella: “You will know them by their fruits.”
