I am a member of the Hamilton Senior Center on the corner of 4th St. and Adirondac Ave. in Hamilton. We are a variety of men and women aged 60-100 years old….YES, SENIORS!!
When I meet people in and around town, I mention the senior center and invite them to come by for lunch. Before I can say another word, a lot of them tell me that they are 70 or 75 but they aren’t interested. All you have there are old people! Last time I looked, 70’s aren’t young! One person said, and I quote, “I know I’m a senior but I don’t feel old enough to use a senior center.”
How old do you have to be to eat a great lunch, listen to live music and have great conversations with people? We have people for lunch who are still working jobs. We have WWII vets and Vietnam vets. We have men and women who have traveled the world. A lot were born and raised here in the area. Why would you not want to come in and enjoy their company? Lunch is served Mon. Wed. & Fri. at 11:45. The food is a delicious salad, main dish and dessert with coffee or tea for just $5. If you go to a restaurant here in town, you’d be paying $12-$15 plus tip for that same meal!
So all you naysayers who think the senior center is just for “OLD” people, drop by sometime and check it out. You might be surprised and could even meet a new friend!
