Wrestling Roundup

by Scott Sacry

Choteau Classic

The Florence wrestling team competed in the Choteau Classic on January 13th & 14th alongside nearly 30 other schools. Overall, the Florence girls finished in 3rd place, while the boys finished in 4th. Individually for the girls, Hailey Sutton took 1st place at 165, Nevaeh Speer placed 6th at 120, Malorey Lawrence placed 3rd at 132, and Morgan Olson placed 5th at 145.

Individually for the boys, Max Rosenthal placed 3rd at 103, Jon Post placed 3rd at 120, Tash Murray placed 6th at 120, Seth Wilson placed 6th at 138, Jett Murray placed 5th at 170, Dallas Blair placed 2nd at 182, and Arie McLaughlin placed 5th at 285.

Jug Beck & John Fisher

The wrestling teams from Stevensville, Corvallis, and Hamilton competed in Missoula on January 13th & 14th in the Jug Beck Rocky Mountain Classic and the John Fisher tournaments. The invite-only Jug Beck is one of the toughest tournaments in the Pacific Northwest and features the top wrestlers from Montana, as well as some wrestlers from Idaho, Washington, and Wyoming. The John Fisher features JV teams and those who lost out of the Jug Beck tournament. Given the quality of the field, placing at the Jug Beck is quite an accomplishment. There were two Bitterroot Valley wrestlers who placed in the Jug Beck. Jesse Anson of Hamilton and Seth Allen of Corvallis finished 7th and 8th respectively in the 132 weight division.

Individual results from the John Fisher tournament:

For Corvallis, Sean Davis placed 1st at 120, Ben White placed 3rd at 126, and Ted Melott placed 7th at 138.

For Hamilton, Colton Morgan placed 7th at 103, Cameron Beall placed 3rd at 113, and Clayton Beall placed 2nd at 182.

For Stevensville, Todd Whitescarver placed 2nd at 120, William Chiavarini placed 5th at 126, Gunnar Larson placed 6th at 132, and Jeffery Berryman placed 6th at 160.
