Ronald F. McCann

January 24, 2023 by Editor

Ronald F. McCann, 92, passed away Saturday, January 14, at his daughter’s home after having lived 32 years in Stevensville, Montana. (Previously Cinnaminson, NJ) Ron is survived by daughters Sharyn Masullo (Alfred) of Haddonfield, NJ,  and Kathleen MacGhee (Peter) of Moorestown, NJ, six grandchildren and four great grandchildren, and a brother Peter McCann. He is predeceased by his wonderful wife Myrna (nee Wright), and his brother James McCann.

After serving in the Air Force as an instructor in the B-29 Flight Engineer School at Chanute Air Force Base during the Korean conflict, Ron pursued a degree in engineering on the GI bill. He spent the bulk of his career at Boeing, Vertol/Helicopter Division and completed two master’s degrees while there. He also was an adjunct at Burlington County College, teaching management.

After retiring in 1991, Ron and his wife Myrna moved to Stevensville, Montana where they had lifelong friends, and built a home on what came to be 50 acres. A big change from Teaneck, NJ, where he was born!

Ron credits their Montana move to his long life, enjoying all his interests, such as his unending passion for aviation, particularly WW II aircraft, and the Curtis P-40 Warhawk (aka the Flying Tiger). He hosted a monthly club of like-minded men called the ‘Aeronuts’ among his museum worthy collection of memorabilia until the Covid pandemic stopped the gatherings.

Ron volunteered for the Ravalli County Clerk and Recorder’s Office doing research, was on the Ravalli County Planning Board, the Stevensville Airport Board, and did genealogy consulting at the LDS Family History Center in Stevensville. He was also a member of the Bitterroot Valley Model Railroad Club and had collections of every scale of model trains. Ron and Myrna were also very active at their church, Our Savior Lutheran Church and Ron was an elder there.

He will be sorely missed, his daily conversations with his daughters being a staple in their lives.

Services at Lutheran Church of Our Savior, 204 Wayne Ave., Haddonfield, NJ, 08033 on Saturday, January 28, 11:00 a.m. Visitation 10:30.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to a Veteran’s group of your choice.

Local service – The congregation of Our Savior Lutheran Church of Stevensville, 184 Pine Hollow Road, will hold a memorial service for Ron on Saturday, February 4 at 2 p.m.  A reception of cookies and beverages will be held in the fellowship hall following the service.
