For 50 years Montanans have grown and prospered under the protection of the Montana Constitution. It is generally regarded as one of the best in the US. Sad to report, some legislators want to undermine the Constitution through amendments that rip out provisions that keep our citizens healthy, safe and free. Already some 55 amendments have been proposed that target our nonpartisan independent judiciary, our right to privacy, our ability to live in a clean and healthy environment, to eliminate our public voice…and so on.
This matters to all of us. As much as we’d like to simply trust the legislators we elected to do the right thing, we have to keep our eye on the ball. Toward that end, there will be a public forum on January 21st from 11:00 to 1:00 at the Hamilton City Hall (Bedford and 2nd St) to remind ourselves what our Montana Constitution is all about. Mae Nan Ellingson, who was there when it was written in 1972, is the speaker.
It’s a nonpartisan event. You’re invited… everyone. It’s free. Come. Let’s join together to understand what is at stake.

Linda – please explain what these amendments are for those of us who cannot go to that meeting. I find it hard to believe that unless some of those legislators are Democrats that they would be working against the people of Montana. Please hep us understand. Post what the amendments are and what they mean to us. Thanks!
