Corvallis made the short trip north to face Stevensville in the ‘Jackets’ homecoming football game on Friday, September 30th. On paper, it looked to be a close match, but in the actual game Corvallis’s passing attack proved too much for Stevensville. Corvallis built a 30-0 halftime lead and won, 37-8. Corvallis QB Aydan Mayn had an excellent game, completing 14 of 18 passes for 222 yards and 4 touchdowns. Corvallis’s receivers made play after play and each of the following players had TD receptions: Dillen Potter, Logan Avery, Gideon Boswell, and Bennett Boelman. Will Bohenek had a solid day rushing with 85 yards and a touchdown.
Stevensville’s offense struggled to gain any momentum against Corvallis’s defense. On defense, Stevensville was solid against the run, but was unable to stop Corvallis’s passing attack, which proved to be the difference in the game. Early in the 3rd quarter, Stevensvile’s running back Kellan Beller ignited the crowd with a long run. He was pushed out of bounds before he could score and after four downs Stevensville was unable to punch it in, giving Corvallis the ball. Stevensville held Corvallis to a punt, which the ‘Jackets blocked, recovering it in the end zone for their lone touchdown. Beller hit Hunter Gum for the 2-point conversion, closing the gap to 8-30. But that was as close as they would get. Stevensville couldn’t move the ball on offense consistently and Corvallis was able to dominate through the air and earn their second straight victory.
Stevensville (1-5) plays at Dillon on Friday, October 7th at 7 p.m., while Corvallis (2-3) will host East Helena on October 7th at 7 p.m.
