The Corvallis and Stevensville boys and girls soccer teams played each other in Corvallis on Saturday, Sept.10th in a Bitterroot Valley matchup. The teams split, as the Corvallis girls won 1-0 and the Stevensville boys won 6-4.
The boys played first, and Stevensville ran out to a 6-2 lead and were able to hang on for the 6-4 victory. The rough and rowdy game got tense in the second half with players on both sides getting red cards, resulting in both teams playing down a man. For Corvallis, Levi Weidkamp and Ryan Hutchison each had two goals, and Eli Knight and Jack Hanssen each had an assist. For Stevensville, Apollo Doehl had two goals and two assists, David Beemes and Ager Isasi each had a goal and an assist, Evan Montague had a goal, and Silas Seibert had an assist.
The girls game was a close match that could have gone either way. Stevensville had 19 shots on goal while Corvallis had five, and Corvallis goalie Kaitlin McCartney had an excellent game with 12 saves. Corvallis was able to make the most of a direct kick rebound opportunity in the 66th minute when Avery Reynoso scored the go ahead goal.
Corvallis played Frenchtown on Tuesday, Sept. 6th. The boys lost 4-5, while the girls won 8-0 in a blowout. For the girls, Kenzie Gross had three goals and one assist, Elsa Miller had two goals, Kiera Davis, Sydney Wolsky, and Abi Buoy each had a goal, and Catherine Varner had an assist.
Stevensville played Frenchtown on Thursday, Sept. 8th and the boys game was postponed because of unhealthy smoke levels at game time. The girls played before the smoke got bad and won 9-0 against a shorthanded Frenchtown squad. Holly St. Germain had two goals and two assists, Maya Peretto had two goals, Josie Lewis had two goals, Kelsen Zahn had a goal and two assists, Victoria Uskoski had a goal and an assist, Dawsyn Brewer had a goal, and Maddie Sacry had an assist.
The Hamilton soccer teams hosted Loyola on Thursday, Sept 8th. The boys won 1-0 and the girls won 6-0. In the girls game, Hamilton’s Hannah Hughes had two goals, Emilee Searle had one goal and two assists, Brynne Johnson had one goal and one assist, and Em Courchesne and Taylor McCarthy each had a goal. Hamilton played East Helena on Saturday, Sept. 10th and both the boys and girls won 10-0.
