Fireworks

July 13, 2022 by Guest Post

by Jim Crews, Stevensville

They started again last night terrifying my dogs so badly that one of the adult dogs wet herself and the puppy just shook with terror.

I am pretty tired of the fireworks.

Constantly bang, pause, pause bang…..etc.

It’s over, it’s now illegal to bust the caps.

It is terrifying to my animals and others.

It’s illegal to terrify animals with fireworks, intentional or not.

Here are the town ordinances.

Sec. 16-118. – Dates allowed for fireworks discharged.

Fireworks will only be allowed to be shot between the hours of 6:00 p.m. to 12:00 midnight on July 3 and from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 midnight on July 4.

Sec. 16-119. – Fireworks shall not be discharged.

Fireworks may not be discharged within 100 feet of a fireworks retail sales location, from inside or toward a motor vehicle or in the vicinity of any animal in a manner likely to expose them to the risk of injury. The governing body may at any time permit a public display of fireworks under such conditions as they may prescribe.

What part of this do folks not get? Not only that, but there are people trying to sleep that have to go to work tomorrow. Do not forget the elderly, for crying out loud, I just want to watch a program once in a while.

Please, inform your neighbors. Not only that, but these people are not cleaning up their messes and are causing potential fire hazards.

The town does have the authority under state law to ban the sale and use of fireworks.

7-33-4206. Regulation of bonfires, fireworks, and other fire-causing agents. The city or town council has power to regulate or prohibit the building of bonfires or the explosion, use, or selling of fireworks, firecrackers, torpedoes, other pyrotechnics, or toy pistols or guns within the city or town.

Maybe it’s time.

Uh there are 365 days in a year, 366 days in a leap year……. Let freedom ring and I don’t believe it’s ringing even one total week out of 52 weeks! Good Lord! Move!

I know. I wanted to say something but to engage with someone who is at this level is pointless. As someone once said, the cruelty is the point. Plain old mean spiritedness and being shitty just for it’s own sake. What a sad, self centered individual.

Gomez: nailed it. Helen is just a mean ole bat with no life. Just like agent orange, I’m sure no dog would even want to be her pet.

As the wife of a highway patrol trooper who was shot in the line of duty, and suffers from PTSD……… fireworks are a nuisence, and are harmful to certain people. I am all for celebrating our independence, but sometimes people need to be considerate of their neighbors. I live in the same community as Jim Crews, and fireworks went off 3 days after the 4th. We left town for the 4th due to my husbands PTSD, and it was crazy. Please please poeple do not think of only the pets, but also your neighbors.

You can get calming pills for your furball or thunder shirts or as a dog trainer suggested, you get recordings of fireworks going off and put them at very low sound every time you feed your pet. Gradually increase the sound until it is quite loud and learn to ignore it. You can also get ear muffs or turn on music to distract from the sound. Do some research on how to work with loud noises and the furball you love.

Be glad YOU can celebrate the July 4th holiday and the freedom it represents instead of “cursing” it. In China they eat dogs you know…..how would you like to live there instead?

You are just a truly mean and hateful human. Your solution to terrifying animals with fireworks is to pre-record them and torture them worse? Where did you get your degree in dog or pet training? Just wow. I thought I’d already read every spiteful and hate filled comments you spew weekly but this takes the cake. Perhaps some empathy training might help but I doubt it. What is the name for folks lacking empathy? Sociopath or psychopathic? Lack of empathy applies to both.
