There are two Republicans running for HD 88. My vote is for Alan Lackey, a conservative who firmly believes in states’ rights that the federal government is taking away by acting outside of its constitutional authority. He is not a professional politician and considers this job to be a servant for the people of MT. He believes the constitution was written to govern the government and not to govern the people.
Alan does not support the Convention of States (COS). This sounds good on the surface, but with no rules and complete uncertainty about the process, it could turn out far different then expected. Many rights given in the constitution could be removed. You can be sure the far left radicals are already embedded in this, just waiting on the sideline to take control. WE DO NOT NEED TO CHANGE THE CONSTITUTION – WE NEED TO UPHOLD AND PROTECT WHAT WE ALREADY HAVE. He supports nullification which can be done on the state and local level when the government tries to force unconstitutional laws upon us.
Alan supports truth, control of education at local levels, small business, gun rights, using Montana’s natural resources and removing burdensome regulations. He loves God, family, and country. You can trust Alan Lackey.

I have listened to both candidates speak and I am sure both are good men. But one is a budding politician (Rusk). And I don’t like the fact he has taken over $48,000 in out of state money promoting the Convention of States and openly stated he is against “nullification”. I also don’t like the fact he has papered my mailbox with flyers at least 5/6 times recently. I asked myself where does a local get the $$ for that and now we all know.
I want a representative in Helena with the right mindset, the temperament to handle the stress and pressure and represent the well-being of Montana and Ravalli County in the forefront. I do not want a budding politician to represent me, someone easily influenced by outside money and influence….We have enough of those already! I’ll cast my vote for Mr. Lackey.

Alan 100%. He is honest and will do his due diligence to represent us the people. Voting for Wayne would be a disaster. He isn’t honest, he changes his stance depending on who he’s talking to. He has been bought by Soros in the tune of $48,431.

No way does Lackey have my vote. Talk to people that have gone to their meetings and hear what they have to say. People vote for Wayne Rusk the right man for the job.

I have really wondered what this nullification hysteria is all about, and I admit, I am still not quite sure because nullification has been standing practice in the United States from its’ inception.
I participated as the moderator at a recent candidate forum in Hamilton last Friday, and this subject came up again. One candidate, Mr. Beady stated the Republican party was the party of Lincoln and Reagan, and then went on to say Lincoln was against nullification. As a moderator I could not ask questions of course. But if I could, I would have asked how this opinion is reconciled by President Lincolns’ own nullification by his suspension of the constitutional right of Habeus Corpus during the Civil War? When criticized by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court on this issue, Lincoln is reported to have said, “He is soft in the head”.
Secondly, nullification is enacted almost daily by juries in the United States. Anyone remember the OJ Simpson verdict, or the Bundy verdict recently? A Superior Court Judge David H. Garcia whom I respected immensely from California uniformly told jurors; As jurors you are participating in the most pure exercise of democracy we have. Yet, jury nullification is an accepted practice, even though it occurs relatively rarely. It isn’t a matter of whether it is a good practice or not. The reality is, it happens.
As a matter of fact, The Declaration of Independence says that we not only have the right but we also have the duty to alter or abolish any government that does not secure our unalienable rights, including life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Nullification of our entire government then, if offered not only as a solution to ensure the protection of our rights, but expressly categorizes it as a DUTY to alter or abolish a government that does.
Unlike some. I do not lose sleep over this issue but how it is being distorted to reflect poorly on Alan Lackey is frankly, mind numbing and disingenuous. If you have to lie to get my vote, you don’t get it.

Grace, I am sure your heart is in the right place, but your knowledge of COS and nullification is sorely lacking the facts and truth on both topics.
