Oh, my! How to choose a lawyer?
For most of us this issue sometimes arises. Pick the wrong one and it really can hurt.
I got to thinking about this when I went to mark my ballot and the choice for County Attorney popped up. Golly, how does a layman make that choice? I considered what limited knowledge I had about county affairs and decided on the incumbent Bill Fulbright. Turns out there is information out there that leads to a logical conclusion that we are well served by our present County Attorney.
His opponent is involved in a court case to determine if she is qualified to run for office in Montana. The issue won’t be settled until long after this primary election. I understand that she may have voted in Washington and Montana. I don’t know and make no accusation. I’m not up to speed on this issue. But since I have no knowledge of a need for change, why should I care?
Change! Always a battle cry in any election. The changes I have witnessed over the years often led in the wrong direction. Think for a moment about the comedy on our southern border. I ask you, why do you want change in the office of County Attorney? Is there some raging argument about Bill Fulbright’s performance? Beats me. Seems to me that there has been no issue about Fulbright’s performance over the years he has served. In our times, that is one great endorsement!
Consider the performance of County Attorneys on the “left” coast. Crime and civil strife rages without accountability. The nanny state (Washington) is no exception. We all remember Seattle’s “summer of love.” All this happened under Democratic rule. I understand that Bill’s opponent has a long history of supporting Democratic causes. That rips it for me! I suggest we leave well enough alone. If, after some years of living here she should decide to try again, we will have firm knowledge about the philosophy she may bring to the office of County Attorney.
I can’t resist a bit of humor before closing. One of my pleasant memories of wonderful parades in the valley is often the last act of all—-Bill Fulbright’s appearance with a shovel and wheelbarrow cleaning up manure, that classic of parade waste. A lawyer willing to do that just has to be pure Montana.
There is no issue or cause for change. Why take a chance on the unknown? So vote to keep Bill Fulbright in office.
