It’s beyond me to understand why the City Council would consider removing the rabbits in town. The first time I came to Hamilton, some 30+ years ago, one of the first things I found endearing was to see rabbits hopping around in people’s front yards, while driving around town. All these years later, I still look for them and smile when I see them. As far as I know, they just eat grass and weeds and don’t cause any problems. What I find visually disturbing are the piles of dog crap deposited in our driveway that are not being picked up by the folks walking their pets. Not to mention the visual pollution of the forest of political signs in people’s yards before every election, regardless of their political leaning. The Bitterroot is incredibly beautiful and hospitable, let’s keep it that way.

Maybe this warrants a change to the hunting rules and regulations in Montana. I would propose a year round open rifle season on bunnies within the city limits of Hamilton. No discharging of rifles within ten feet of homes and businesses. That should solve the problem.
