Born to Evelyn and Robert Weidner September 27, 1955. Bill died September 28th 2021. Just reaching the age of 66. He died of complications of Alzheimer’s Disease.
Bill was warm, spontaneous and adventurous. He lived in the present moment.
He was raised in a family renown for starting the Weidner Begonia Gardens in Southern California. They were well known for introducing many varieties of plants.
Bill left California to travel in Mexico. He loved the people and language of Mexico and travel in general. While in Mexico he met Peggy Steffes and her son Kasmir. Bill became their personal translator as he seemed to appear every time they were attempting to buy an ice cream or similar situations. Before Peggy & Kas returned home they extended an invitation to Bill to come visit Montana. A few weeks later Bill pulled up to Peggy’s house in his blue jeep with a washing machine in the back of it. It was love at 1st laundry load.
Peggy was a well known studio potter in the Bitterroot Valley. Bill and Peggy remained partners for 17 years. Peggy also raised Thoroughbred race horses.
Bill enjoyed working with them and got into the sport with the great good luck to own one of our very 1st homebreds, Persian Bay. Winner of 13 races,13 second and 6 thirds, where she misjudged the finish line at a new tracks. She won at Longacres in Seattle and lots of places.
When they parted company in 2020, Bill decided to travel the world for the next 17 years. He managed to circumvent the world twice. His favorite country was Spain. He loved the wine, women and song. He even sent bottles of wine back to Peggy from Spain.
One of his favorite pastimes while traveling was Mountain climbing in several countries.
Upon returning to Montana, he lived in Missoula. His early onset of Alzheimer’s was diagnosed in about 2017. Bill lived at Sapphire Lutheran home at the Remington. From 2018 until his death, 9/28/2021.
Bill was survived by his mother, Evelyn Weidner, his sisters Jan and her husband Vance (Bud) Mclure, Mary and husband Richard Witesman and his brother John Weidner and wife Charlene. Bill also had several nephews and a niece.
