February 16, 1921 – October 4, 2021
At age 100, Mary passed away peacefully with the assistance of Providence Hospice Care. Mary was born February 16, 1921 in Anaconda, Montana.
At 100 years young, she was beloved by all of her family and friends. She often told her family stories of her early life in Anaconda and Stevensville, Montana. She met Ray Correa who was working at the Anaconda Copper Smelter. They were married for 52 years and parented one daughter and two sons. They moved to the Bitterroot Valley in Montana in 1942 and worked long hard hours together on their family cattle ranch/farm.
Mary is survived by her daughter Deloris Mead, son Rick Correa (wife Peggi), and son Bob Correa (wife Paula), and their respective children and grandchildren. She always created happy family experiences. She loved her role as a mother, grandmother, great and great-great grandmother. She supported everyone’s lives and aspirations. Mary will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Mary retired after 31 years as the Head Cook/Manager at the Stevensville School District lunchroom. After the death of her husband, Mary moved to Portland, Oregon. She traveled to: Ireland, Jamaica, Hawaii, Cancun, Bahamas, British Columbia, Cayman Islands, the Panama Canal and most of the United States. In her 90’s, she started painting classes, played in a Wii bowling league and made jewelry.
Mary was a small package, full of energy, fun and sparkle. She was comfortable visiting with all types of people of all ages. Whether it was the Governor of South Dakota or the President of Portland State University, she always had people smiling. Mary enjoyed sweets and played a mean game of cards, told jokes and was ready to pack her suitcase for any trip. Mary was an avid fan of the Trailblazers. She liked to go to PSU women’s and men’s basketball games as well as tailgate at the football games.
There will be no services held in Portland. At her request, private family services will be held in July 2022 at Stevensville, Montana, where she will be laid to rest in a gravesite next to her late husband Ray Correa.
