The future depends on our attention to the present

September 1, 2021 by Guest Post

by Laura Garber, Hamilton

I don’t care if you wear a mask, or not, got vaccinated, or not. What I want to know is Why are you not doing something? Why are you still using and abusing, treating the Earth like a dumpster and your brother like a slave? Why are you not paying attention?

You seem to have lost track of reality, caught up in stories and inattention. We are not heeding the quiet of the missing insects. We are not chasing the lost runs of fish or the forgotten herds of wild beasts. The migrations are stalled yet we choose to look the other way.

However, the moment for action is now. The time to remember is here.

We can surrender our love for money and our addictions to fear. We can turn toward each other, the soil, and love. We can create a World that Works for Everyone.

Starting today, and in every moment going forward, we must all stand up for our future- and say no to the things that harm our human family and our home the Earth. No more poisons on our food- no more RoundUp or GMO’s, no chemicals sprayed on the fields or fruits. No more hiding the true cost to our fellow man, heedlessly enjoying the abundances that we neglect to share evenly. We can do this now, and we must.

The life of the soil must come as the most important, always first. The soil of the Earth we grow our food in, and the social soil that is the ground from which civil society grows, both beg for our loving concern and care. We’ll start with each thing we buy, each food that we eat, each word that we pass-.

Please, wake up and remember the future depends on our attention to the present.
