To the editor: You are the editor of the Bitterroot Star newspaper, hired by your employers Jesse and Sasha Mullen. And as editor you have the right to publish whatever you desire to publish. You have not been hired to be cancelled by those who do not agree with what you print, or mis-read what you choose to print. You are the one in charge of editing, not those who choose to pick apart what you do.
I found it appalling that you were apologizing for printing the cartoon that so many of your readers appreciated and applauded that you published! At long last we were seeing a balance in what was being published, just as Jesse Mullen had promised when he addressed some of us citizens at the Frontier Cafe when he and Sasha first purchased the paper.
The cartoon had nothing to do about the teacher and the staff. It had to do with what was being taught inside, as you said yourself… “If you don’t work on what happens inside the school, you haven’t really addressed the whole picture.” Schools are about the children of the community. And no student should have to leave high school without being totally prepared for real life. Or be subjected to what would destroy their innocence and thought processes.
Parents and grandparents in the whole of the USA are upset at what is not being taught in schools: the basics of reading, writing and arithmetic; including English, true history of the U.S. of A., logical thinking cultivated so the students can think for themselves. No one can even debate or carry on a discussion of anything because no one knows how to “listen” and “learn.” And every discussion is viewed as an “emotional” situation. Grow up! Think, listen and get wise!
This past week a poll showed that 81% of Americans want school choice!
