On Tuesday, May 25, the Bitterroot Bucs head coach, Austin Nogle, claimed his 100th win after defeating the Bitterroot Red Sox, 8-1. Coach Nogle is “super excited and just happy to do it with these guys who have been there with me the whole time.” Zach Christopherson threw an amazing game on the mound for the Bucs, with only five hits allowed and four strikeouts. The Bucs gained an early lead in the game, scoring 2 in the first inning off a sac fly from Colby Kohlman and a single to center by Brenden Schneider.
For the Red Sox, sophomore Harley Fogel started on the mound, throwing two innings with two strikeouts. Jackson Jessop relieved Fogel in the third, finishing the game with five strikeouts. The Red Sox lone run was scored in the top of the sixth by a double from Aaron Springer, driving Paul Brenneman home.
In the end, the Bucs played a great game of baseball, and took home the win as a result. “These guys are always going to come out and give you a good baseball game,” said Nogle of their historically rival team. “We just want to come out and play our game and not let them affect what we were doing.” And that’s exactly what the Bucs did. With a total of six hits and no errors, they dominated at the plate as well as the diamond.
The two teams played again Wednesday night, and although the Red Sox put up more of a fight, the Bucs still came out on top with a score of 7-5. This won’t be the last time these two teams meet, and as Nogle said of their league, “anybody can beat anyone on any given day.”
The Bucs’ next home game will be Sunday, June 6, against Mission at 1 p.m.
