Darby – Vera Mae Weer, 88, passed away on April 26, 2021 at her home in Darby from natural causes. Her family was by her side. Vera was the oldest of seven children born to Ina and Charlie Anderson. She was born on her grandparents farm near Guthrie, Oklahoma on October 22, 1932. Vera grew up in Oklahoma and attended school in Enid, OK. She met and married Max Lemons, and they had one son, Max Ray. Together they traveled the United States with Max Sr.’s work. Vera told of the various places they had lived and the sites they had seen. In 1963, they landed in the Bitterroot Valley and purchased the Rocky Knob Lodge. While this marriage ended, she spoke fondly of the memories and times shared.
Vera met and fell in love with Dan Weer. They married in 1969 and shared over 50 wonderful years of marriage. They had two children, Dana and David. Together they owned and operated the Valley Bar in Darby, MT, the Buckskin Inn in Cooke City, MT and a Ranch in Conner, MT. Vera was an amazing Mother, always loving and present for her children and grandchildren. Even in her later years, the “kids” were always on her mind. Her animals were a close second.
Vera will always be remembered for her caring ways, amazing cooking, hospitality, quick wit, and humor. These personality traits continued to shine through, despite being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Vera will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
