I would like to add to Bob Michalson’s “End of an Era” letter about the shameful way Stevensville Director of Public Works George Thomas was treated by Mayor Brandon Dewey.
Not long after Brandon Dewey became Mayor, we lost our first valuable Director of Public Works via “retirement,” Ed Sutherland. Ed and George were the workers that kept the town in working order. The loss of Ed and George is a tremendous loss to me personally, and to other citizens of Stevensville.
When the town water liens froze several Winters ago on the other side of the street from my house, Ed and George knew exactly what it would take to thaw out the city water lines Tony home and other affected homes and businesses, and they did it!
In the three years Dewey has continued in office, I have witnessed George being over worked and under paid. No one in the town work force, now working or will be hired, will have the knowledge about the town’s infrastructure that is now lost. This Fall when the town workers usually pick up leaves and yard debris of the citizens, Mayor Dewey forbid George to do the job. The citizens were to haul their own debris to the city park.
But Mayor Brandon Dewey said it was George that would not pick up the debris when people called to ask about when the debris was going to be picked up.
Then after George “retired,” lo and behold, there were the young hot shots picking up and hauling away the yard debris that the citizens had not hauled away themselves, making it look like George had been the culprit. Really?
Yes, thank you George for your years of faithful service to Stevensville and us citizens. And enjoy your retirement, I know of no one that deserves it more!

Sharon Gee says
1. George retired.
2. Mayor Dewey never blamed George for the debris pickup issue. He made it clear that we did not have the manpower/resources needed to make it happen and he came up with a plan B. You’re making stuff up and trying to stir the pot.
