The concept of holding public meetings that are for the most part CLOSED MEETINGS must be changed.
The reason to continue keeping the public at arm’s length may be a virus, but this policy must be changed immediately. Democracy suffers. Council and board decisions are being made without the public’s wisdom and input.
Nothing is as good as talking with and listening to neighbors discuss and debate matters that impact them — in person. Face to face!
What about this? Hold public meetings in the Playhouse. Or, in an area church. How about the school football stadium?
Social distancing could be practiced. Masks could be in place. Microphones could be judiciously spaced for public comment.
Council and boards, be creative. Schedule meetings so we may attend. But, don’t close us out of the decision-making process.
