The Bitterroot Bucs will have a busy summer playing American Legion baseball but they won’t get out of Western Montana, unlike other years when they played all over the state and even in some out of state tournaments. The farthest they will travel during the regular season is Libby to the north and Butte to the east according to their most recent schedule. With only eight teams in the conference, the Bucs, and all the teams will really get to know each other by the end of the season. There will be a district and state tournament.
On Saturday, the Bucs were host to the Missoula Mavs A team in a double header. Colby Kohlman of Florence should have been named the MVP for the first game. The 2020 graduate had two triples and one RBI. He also came in to close out the game pitching in the top of the sixth and held on to give the Bucs the 4-2 win. He also scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the third.
Kohlman’s luck didn’t continue in the second game but the defense from both teams was tough. In the third, the Bucs crossed home plate three times to take the lead. This included an RBI single by Jake Scully. The Bucs went on to win, 5-1.
