By Tim Huls, President, Huls Dairy Inc., Corvallis
The recent letter by Susan McCreary headed “Support for Tummarello” comes extremely close to the rule that it shouldn’t be justified with a response. Because I can’t resist breaking this rule, as a compromise I’ll keep this short. I never dreamed that business decisions by Huls Dairy would become fodder for the Ravalli County Commissioner campaign. It is clear that Ms. McCreary knows nothing about Huls Dairy or the dairy industry, hence the faulty “questions” posed in the letter. If anyone, including Ms. McCreary, cares about or wants to know why we have decided to exit the dairy industry after more than 100 years, or how we are doing that, I would be happy to fill them in, but not here. Even the true information regarding this has no relevance to the Commissioner race.
The attempt to use wrong information to call into question Dan Huls’ integrity is disappointing to say the least. For more than a century, as our family has participated in and helped lead the dairy industry, we have endeavored to follow the rules with honesty and integrity. I can assure your readers that our effort in that regard has not changed as we exit dairy.
It is interesting that this supporter of Mr. Tummarello who wishes to champion personal property rights, has no problem sticking her nose into other people’s business. I know Dan Huls probably as well as anybody, and he is not the leader of or participating in a secret conspiracy to impede anyone’s personal property rights. In fact, I know of no such movement. So when you hear that expressed or implied, please consider the source and judge for yourself the honesty of the story teller. Dan Huls is honest and will make a fine commissioner.
