The Corvallis girls secured their state playoff berth with a 5-1 win over Frenchtown. Coach David Molesh said it was a real team effort with everyone contributing and playing well. “They pulled together as a team and played well.”
Corvallis scored early in the game off a corner kick from Mikayla King, but Frenchtown came right back to tie it up. Corvallis’s second goal was a shot by Maria Hickey right up the middle that hit the goal keeper and rolled right up her into the net. Freshman Sidney Wolsky took a shot from the corner across the net and into the corner for their third goal. Hickey scored again and then Ella Dowd scored on a penalty kick for the final Corvallis goal.
“Frenchtown is a very physical team but the team is starting to learn how to play against a physical team,” said Molesh. “They are learning when to put pressure on and knowing when to avoid it.”
Corvallis is the No. 2 seed from the South and will take on the winner of the Laurel/Livingston game which was played Monday night. That game will be in Corvallis and is tentatively set for 2pm.
Stevensville will also play this weekend in the first-round playoffs. They played Hamilton to a 1-1 draw on Saturday. Anikah Thorsell scored the Stevensville goal at 41 minutes. Katie Frederick scored the lone goal for Hamilton.
