At the August 8 Stevensville Town Council meeting, Council member Robin Holcomb took her last stab at making a motion, seconding it, and then approving it all by herself, as she appointed three new council members that evening.
“I move to move the agenda item of appointing the new council members to be the next thing on our agenda, I second my motion and I vote yes, it passes,” she said.
Holcomb then proceeded to appoint Steve Gibson to fill the seat of Stacie Barker in Ward 1. Other applicants included Sarah Armijo, Mason Buchanan, and Jaime Williams.
Dempsey Vick was appointed to fill Jim Crews’ seat in Ward 2 and Patrick Shourd was appointed to fill Bob Michalson’s seat in Ward 2. Other candidates for those positions included Trenis Hindle and Jerid Huggans.
“I call the question, vote yes on the motion and the motion passes,” she stated.
All the candidates had been previously interviewed by Holcomb and she thanked them all for applying.
Vick and Gibson were then sworn into office and took seats at the table. Shourd was not present.
The only other business conducted consisted of approving two claims requests. One set of claims was already paid administratively following the last meeting. Holcomb noted that she had asked that those claims not be paid without full council approval and declined to approve them herself. The Mayor paid them anyway and was seeking retroactive approval. Holcomb declined to approve it, but the motion was approved on a two to one vote by the new council members while Holcomb cast the dissenting vote. A second set of claims was approved unanimously.
