In response to Mr. Oppenheim, there was no hate or racism in Ms. Gibney’s letter. What she cited was facts, many from our own Government and Border Patrol. Your words of hate toward her and suggestion of Drano is extremely hateful and racist toward another who does not share your same opinion.
Just so you know, her grandfather also came from Poland, went through Ellis Island and was vetted like everyone else. He went to work as a blacksmith, saved enough money to bring his family to America from Poland. He raised 7 children all who became hardworking American citizens and never took a dime in welfare from this country. He worked hard, eventually bought a small farm, raised his own beef and vegetables to save money to support his family while he still worked at a day job.
We also have two adopted foreign born children, who came here legally. We had to fill out a myriad of forms for the government and our children had to see a doctor who checked them in their own country to verify that they were in good health to come here. We are not prejudiced or racist people, but those who come here must come legally! Not by forcing their way across our borders. There are many who want to come here legally and these illegals are taking away from them. I see this as selfish on the part of the illegals.
What she quoted was from our laws as to who can and cannot come into this country. It is our own government who says what character can come and if you are sick in any way you cannot come in! This is for your protection!
You are the one who is ignorant and stupid, as you put it in your letter about Ms. Gibney, as you don’t seem to understand that ALL countries have laws preventing illegals from entering. These laws are in place for a very good reason, not for bleeding hearts like you who would put this country in danger! It is not prejudice, hate or racist to want to protect the people of this country from those who would bring in drugs, contagious diseases, criminals or those who will put our national security in danger.
You are the person who is filled with prejudice and hate! as you like to call others, to write the dribble you did in your article. You are also blind to why we cannot let just anyone into this country and Ms. Gibney gave very good solid reasons why it is not the right thing to do. We are not against anyone coming here, but you must do it legally! Stop thinking you are the only person who had other family members come here, that is not a good reason to let illegals enter over our borders illegally. And YES, most end up on welfare, draining this country through taxes and have no desire to work or assimilate. You need to wake up and stop being the ignorant one.
Also I would like to point out that one party is pushing immigration to the extreme. It makes me wonder if the real reason isn’t that the Democratic party wants votes. Also, I note that it was Obama that started the despicable use of cages. Not a word did we hear from the Democrats then.
And to Mr. Stroud: illegals are not vetted! Ms. Gibney didn’t say illegals are not of good moral character – learn to read – it is our government who said that those not of good moral character are not welcome here.
