This has not been the best spring for playing tennis. When practice began in mid-March, all of the outside courts in the valley were covered in up to a foot of snow. Then came the wind, rain, and more snow. Veteran coach Bill Everett of Stevensville said he had never had to shovel so much snow in all his 29 years of coaching.
“We spent more time the gym than we did on the court,” he said.
Stevensville is fielding a larger team than they have in the past he said. There are 25 girls out and 14 boys. The boys are younger and are just gaining experience right now but Everett thinks they will get stronger as the season progresses. Stevensville and Corvallis had a match on Thursday with the Blue Devils wining both the boys and the girls matches.
