The annual Bob Reed Invitational track meet features only the six schools in the valley so it is not one of the big meets; but it is big for achieving bragging rights here in the valley. The wind was a factor with the meet as the day progressed. By early afternoon, the pole vaulters had to have someone holding the bar in place as they jumped because the wind would blow the bar off the stand.
Hamilton had a couple of athletes that set personal records. Brynnli Poulson, a sophomore, set a personal best in the 1,600 with a time of 5:23.03. That mark is also the second best Class A time in the state at this time. Poulson also won the 800 with a time of 2:28.24.
Jacob Campbell won the shot put with a distance of 55-05. This was a school record for Hamilton as well as the second longest put in the state at this time. Carter Hughes of Sidney has the longest distance with 55-11.5 and Corvallis’ Garrett Brown is in third place with 55-0. The three are more than three feet ahead of the next longest throw in the state. Campbell also won the discus, edging out his teammate, Tyler Burrows by more than nine feet.
In the girls’ 100 meter race, Casey Ehmann of Darby came from behind to edge out Stevi’s Ashton Lewis for first. Ehmann, who is one of the top hurdlers in the state at both the 100 and the 300, didn’t compete in any more events on Saturday because of the cold and a slight injury. Lewis came back to win the 200 and the 400. Corvallis’ Hannah Martin took first in the 3,200.
Corvallis’ Kaitlen Herbstritt set a personal best record in the pole vault at 10 feet. The sophomore’s effort is tied with two others in the state for the fourth highest vault in the state. Another Corvallis sophomore, Kaitlyn Weidow, finished in third place in the discus behind Blue Devil Calla Haldorson and Hamilton’s Kaitlin Dickemore with a throw of 116-07 but her effort was still in the top 10 in the state. Haldorson, who leads the state, won the county championship with a throw of 136-09. Dickemore was second with 120-11.
Jazmine Jones of Stevensville broke loose with a throw of 120-07 in the javelin to win. This is the third best effort in the state currently. Angelica Street of Columbia Falls has the best throw in the state with 149-04.
It was a match race between Will Flowers of Corvallis and Colton Kirkland of Hamilton in the 1,600 meter race. Although Flowers took an early lead, Kirkland came on in the third lap to take the race. Kirkland also won the 800.

Corvallis’ Dante Venema took his time coming into the pole vault, sitting leisurely in his lawn chair or helping his teammates, and gauging the wind. When he came in, the senior quickly raised the bar over his competitors and went on to win with a vault of 12-6.
