Montana Chocolate Company has moved – but not far

December 5, 2018 by Michael Howell

If you see some big red signs in Stevensville saying “CHOCOLATE” with an arrow pointing, just follow the arrow and you will find what you are looking for. It’s the Montana Chocolate Company. The signs are up due to recent changes at the place. The chocolate shop has always shared the building with a clock shop, but the businesses have recently switched entranceways. Customers now enter the chocolate shop where they used to enter the clock shop and vice versa. And it’s amazing how people can be so focused on where they are headed that they don’t look next door. Thus, the big red signs.

Caitlin Dunn, owner of the Montana Chocolate Company, is taking it all in stride and kindly directs the people walking in expecting to get their clock fixed to the shop next door. Dunn has owned the homegrown chocolate business since 2016, but has worked there for nine years, having started when she was 15 years old.

“It was my first job ever and I’m still doing it,” said Dunn. But she doesn’t do it alone. It’s a family affair. Her mother, Sharon, makes the chocolates, Caitlin does the decorating, and her brother Ryan does the marketing and sales.

Owner Caitlin Dunn, pictured above and at right, who at 24 surely must be one of Stevensville’s youngest business owners, displays some of the fine hand crafted chocolates and candies that the Montana Chocolate Company is known for. To find the sweet shop, turn west onto Valley View off of Main Street at the south end of Stevensville’s business district and the shop will be on your right. If you get to Bitterroot Wash and Wag, you’ve just passed The Montana Chocolate Company! Michael Howell photos.

The hand dipped chocolates are made in small batches and are also hand decorated. Picking out your favorite won’t be easy with over 100 selections to choose from. The company specializes in putting together custom boxes.

Packed to the gills with chocolates of every sort, the little store also offers other mostly Montana made products, including jewelry, sweaters, pillows, jams, lotions, syrups, paintings and gift cards.

The store is located on the first block of Valley View Street just off of Main Street in Stevensville. It is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. The phone number is 777-0808.
