The Bitterroot Valley teams involved in the State Class A golf tournament that was held at the Hamilton Golf Course over the weekend had a successful weekend. Although Laurel won both the boys and the girls team championship, the Hamilton boys team came in second and Stevensville finished in third place. The Laurel boys finished with 597, Hamilton had 625 and Stevensville shot a combined 659.
In the girls team scoring, Laurel shot a 726. They were followed by Whitefish with 760 and Corvallis in third with 782.
Ryggs Johnston of Libby finished his high school career with a fourth state championship. He shot 67-70-137. There was a four way tie for second place with all four shooting a 145. Carson Hackmann of Laurel, Cameron Kahle of Whitefish, Matt Hobbs of Polson and Tristan Hanson of Hamilton all marked a 145. Tristan Hanson shot a 75 on Friday and a 70 on Saturday. Zach Taylor of Hamilton was third with scores of 71-80 for 151 total. Zel Frost of Stevensville was eighth with 78-80-158; Luke Schlimgen of Corvallis was ninety with 76-83-159, and Ivan Yazvac finished 15 with 83-78-161.
Corvallis’ Macee Greenwood battled back and forth with Tricia Joyce of Butte Central for the top spot on the podium. Joyce shot a 75 on Friday and a 77 on Saturday for 152. Greenwood, a freshman, shot a 78 on Friday and a 79 on Saturday for a combined 157. Another Blue Devil, Keelee Storrud finished eighth with 93-90-183. Aly Rose of Hamilton tied for 14th with 94-94-188 along with Sammee Bradeen of Libby. Jasi Oyler of Stevensville finished 15th with 94-95-189.
