Support for Jackson

October 5, 2018 by Guest Post

By Michele Dieterich, Hamilton

Laura Jackson will listen to you.

I am delighted to see Laura Jackson’s name on the ballot for Montana State Representative House District 85. Jackson is an active listener who is open to diverse ideas. Unlike current Representative Theresa Manzella, Jackson is not afraid to consider opinions different from her own. In fact, she seeks out opposing views and literature to inform her understanding of the issues.

District 85 comprises a diverse group of people. However, there is one issue where the majority of Ravalli County residents share similar beliefs, beliefs that Manzella chooses to ignore. Eighty percent of Ravalli County residents are in favor of preserving the Sapphire and Blue Joint WSAs. Manzella supported legislation to allow for their release. She did not listen to her constituents and has put our hunting heritage, blue ribbon fishing, and tourism economy at risk.

It is a difficult task to assure all are heard and considered, but when an overwhelming majority supports an issue it is time to put personal opinions aside. Manzella has failed to do this on many occasions. She has forgotten who she represents.

One must find common interests to inspire legislation that will improve life in Ravalli County. It takes a special individual to represent a diverse group of people. Laura Jackson is that person. This November, choose a listener that will truly represent our area: Laura Jackson.
