We recommend voting for Bob Nelson and Jeff Mark for Bitterroot Conservation District Supervisor. Both are experienced incumbents with hundreds of applications/ permits approved.
As retired supervisors with a combined total of over 50 years of service, we can attest to the fact that practical field experience is essential to being an effective supervisor. Although the scope of responsibility is broader, the principal tasks of the Conservation District are to administer the Montana Natural Streambed and Land Preservation Act (310 Law), and conduct conservation education in Ravalli County.
As you are aware, the perennial streams in this county are numerous, dynamic, and all are subject to State and Federal law. Supervisors must understand relevant law as it applies to stream types and potential changes over a wide range. Although there is extensive guidance from other agencies, experience is valuable in applying that knowledge to local conditions. Both of these incumbents have consistently proven themselves in this regard.
While all supervisors have educational responsibilities, Bob Nelson built and operates the district’s watershed trailer. He uses it at numerous events to describe how streams act in many conditions. The trailer and Bob have educated almost every school child in the county and are present at many other gatherings. Perhaps you’ve see them.
These two essential volunteer veteran supervisors are an asset to conservation activities in Ravalli County. We strongly recommend Bob Nelson and Jeff Mark for reelection.
